We relocated to Yucca Valley, CA in 2000. That spring our property was decorated with dozens of Mariposa Lilies. The silvery leave emerge in a spiral close to the ground and followed by a silvery teardrop shaped bud. The bud open to display three vivid orange pedal with a few dark purple marks near the center. They lasted a few weeks. Each spring I look forward searching the property for the lilies. With the last couple of droughts, the charming little flowers haven’t come back.
